I can’t believe it. Seriously, I made something without any issues. Not one! It’s not even April Fools Day.
I made a quilt AND a pillow. An “art” quilt & pillow. Art quilting is my favorite thing I have done so far on my sewing journey. No rules. No pattern. I just make it up from my very own brain. Here is what I did:
First, I started with an idea. My “theme” for Blow’s this past month was all things Fargo. What better place to start than with the Fargo Theater sign! I wanted to keep the shades of color black and white.
Then, I free-handed the letters. Finally, I get to use a skill I learned in college! I have an art minor. See Mom, it was NOT all for nothing!! I stay as close to the original sign font as I could, then traced them onto fusible interfacing.
The fun part. Laying on fabric. It is like painting. I love to paint. This is awesome. I could do this kind of “sewing” all day long.
I free motion appliqué on all the fabric. Which is also like painting, only this time with thread. Did I mention, this is super fun!!?? I have to create the borders of the sign. This was a bit more tricky as there are curves and circles. I have to try and match the left and right sides together. I free-handed it, if you look close, there are differences, but oh well.
Last step is to quilt. I passed this off to Kerry. I am not quite ready to ruin all the hard work I have put into this. I ACTUALLY want to hang it in my house.
The second “Fargo” project was a North Dakota pillow using the same technique. I used my embroidery feature on my Janome this time. I have been looking for a way to use it. I will be keeping this pillow in my house! I am saving money by making my own home decor. Right??!! I mean, minus the cost of the machine AND the fabric. By my calculations I am money ahead! I did get a C- in math.
All projects are at the store for your viewing pleasure and amusement.
Cheers!
