The End.

It’s almost here.  The end of school!  Since I can now sew, I thought it would perfect to create something handmade.  I decided on getting some insulated mugs and making coffee cozy’s to jazz them up.

I have the cozy pattern down to a science!  We made 100’s of them for “Cozy’s for the Cure”.

I got the first one mostly done before I ran in to an issue. I am working on a Bernina now.  Darren wants me to sew on both Janome and Bernina so I can give unbiased feedback.  I have spent the last 8 months on a Janome.  This is my first week on a Bernina.  There is a learning curve!  Everything is slightly different.  I tell you this because I tried to sew a button on with my Bernina, the same way I would do it on a Janome and this happened.

I got the machine so jammed that I couldn’t figure out how to fix it.

I decided to do this project the same day I had a “sew in” at my house. Which means all my other machines are being used by my friends.

Do you see how hard they are working?  It is hard to get a word in they are so laser focused on their sewing.  Here are actual quotes from them:

From Steph (the blonde). “Don’t give me anymore information.  This is brain overload.”

I had her cut 2.5 inch strips of fabric.  If you are waiting for more to this story, there isn’t any.  That is all the information I gave her.

From Shannon (the brunette).  “I think I am done for today.”   I think she got a solid 10 stitches in.  We were at my house for nearly 2 hours.

I love you both.

Also don’t judge my sewing room.  It is a work in progress.  I realize I am sewing on a 20 year old kids Target desk.  More to come on that later.

Anyway, back to my project. I had the idea to have Tyler write a hand written message on fabric and I would free motion over his letters and make it into a coffee cozy.

The Bernina 790 has a free motion stitch regulator foot that I want to use to accomplish this.  BUT, my machine is jammed. I need Darren to fix it.  Darren loves nothing more to come home from 8 hours of working on sewing machines to then fix my sewing machine.  Loves it!

Did I mention I have NO patience.  After my super hard working sewing friends leave, I take over the Janome.  You can free motion on it too, but it doesn’t have a stitch regulator.  I can’t wait for Darren, I need these done now.  Right now.

I am threaded and ready.  Problem #2. OLD THREAD.  Darren tells me all the time it absolutely matters what thread you use. It took this happening to me 6 times before I thought, “Maybe it’s the thread.”

My new thread and I free motion over Ty’s letters.  By the time I am done with one cozy, guess who is home?  Darren.  I bat my eyelashes.  Ask real nice and he fixes my Bernina. I decided I will do the other cozy on my Bernina, so I can compare. Pink one is done on Janome 9400 and blue one is done on the Bernina 790.  I think they both look great.  More on that in another blog.

Project is complete.  Teacher gifts are done. I have to say that I am loving my new hobby.  Creating has been so much fun!

Cheers to sewing!!
